Causes Of Hair Loss

Causes Of Hair Loss

There are several causes of hair loss and one of the major causes is a hereditary condition that happens with ageing (known as Androgenic Alopecia), affecting the majority of men, typically starting from their thirties.

Men who are impacted by Androgenic Alopecia are generally sensitive to a byproduct of testosterone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT hinders the normal hair growth cycle by building up around follicles, and over time, shrinking the follicles. This causes the hair strands to weaken and fall out prematurely.

Another major contribution to abnormal hair loss is high stress levels, and there are three main types of hair loss associated with it: Telogen Effluvium, Alopecia Areata, Trichotillomania. Elevated stress levels often lead to excessive hair loss during this period of high anxiety. On the bright side, once the stress-related events are over, hair coverage usually reverts to the original condition.

Excessive use of chemicals and heat from hair colouring, perming, styling, etc., dehydrates the hair and scalp, leading to dullness, frizz, and irritation. Natural oils from the hair could be stripped, causing the water molecules inside the cortex to evaporate. This changes the hair’s protein structure, making it dry, brittle, and prone to breakage.

Additionally, air pollution, oxidative stress, external pollutants and contaminants can adversely affect the health of the hair and scalp, creating imbalances that might result in inflammation and excessive secretion of sebum, leading to oily scalp and premature hair fall.

Last but not least, undernourishment and poor blood circulation to the follicles will also result in premature hair loss and thinning as follicles lack the hair-building nutrients that are necessary to support strong hair growth in the Anagen phase.

In summary, combating hair loss requires a multipronged, consistent approach. By using hair loss treatments, reducing stress, avoiding harsh chemicals and heat, protecting your hair from external pollutants, and maintaining a healthy diet, you can help prevent hair loss and promote healthy hair growth.
